Ludwig van Beethoven
Für Elise (Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor, WoO 59) is one of Ludwig van Beethoven's most popular compositions. Despite its fame, the piece wasn't published until 40 years after Beethoven's death in 1867.
The title "Für Elise" means "For Elise" in German, though the identity of Elise remains a mystery. Some scholars suggest it may have been a transcription error, and the piece was actually written for Therese Malfatti, one of Beethoven's students.
The piece is beloved by piano students worldwide for its memorable opening theme and serves as a stepping stone to more advanced classical repertoire. Its gentle, lyrical melody contrasts beautifully with the more dramatic middle section.
